Club Summer League

Club Summer League (CSL) is a "bring your own team" event, giving mixed club teams the chance to scrimmage regularly. Comprised of two levels of playing divisions, CSL is designed for both competitive teams seeking additional prep time for the USAU Fall Series, and for newer / casual teams looking to play more often than the occasional tournament. The season begins in June each year and runs through August.

Summer 2012 News

Club Summer League 2012 - Registrations for teams and individuals opened in April, games begin in June at Gilman Fields in Berkeley.

Registrations Open

CSL runs from June through August at the Gilman Fields in Berkeley. Team management is left to the captains; however, we recommend a minimum roster size of 16 to ensure sufficient attendance for all games. Each team is free to determine their players, practice schedule, team name, team dues, and so on. But let us know if your team needs assistance getting team jerseys or recruiting players - we can help!

Divisions / Schedules

To provide the best play and most balanced competition for all teams, the summer session has two divisions. Division 1 (Thursdays) is intended for more experienced teams and Division 2 (Mondays) is intended for less experienced teams.

Division 1 Schedule:

  • Thursday nights, June 7th to August 16th
  • 7pm to 9pm and 9pm to 11pm
  • Captain's Meeting June 7th - A representative from each team must attend the captain's meeting 15 min. prior to the first game. If your game is at 7:00, then your captain's meeting is at 6:45 pm. If your game is at 9:00, then the captain's meeting is a 8:45 pm.

Division 2 Schedule:

  • Monday nights, June 4th to August 13th
  • All games from 7pm to 9pm
  • Captain's Meeting June 4th - A representative from each team must attend the captain's meeting 15 min. prior to the first game, at 6:45 pm.

Registration Instructions

Registrations for the 2012 season opened in April. We have separate procedures for teams and individuals as follows:

Teams - Follow steps 1. to 4.

Step 1. Read Team Requirements (below) so you're familiar with your other duties besides online registration and payment.
Step 2. Register team on Google Doc
Step 3. Pay $100 deposit on PayPal. Bear in mind the deposit is only a down payment on the league. Your registration is not complete until deposit is received.
Please type your team name into the memo field after you've entered PayPal so we can tell whose payments belong with which teams.
Step 4. Wait for acceptance of your bid. If your bid is accepted, you will pay an additional $650 to permanently secure your spot in CSL. The total amount due at the start of the season is thus $750, although you may be eligible for a $100 refund at the end if your team meets all the requirements. PayPal link is enabled when steps 1-3 completed.

Individuals - Register yourself on the Google Doc application form for individuals, then wait for the League Director or a club team captain to contact you. We cannot quite guarantee a spot for all individuals who register this way, but we'll do our best to find a suitable match. If you're new in town, or perhaps just home for the summer from school, this can be your best option for getting acclimated in the deepest Mixed Division section in the country.

Try Club Team Tools on DiscSpace

While not a requirement, we strongly encourage all teams participating in CSL to check out DiscSpace.com and give the club team tools a try. The future is here, and this is your chance to provide feedback and see your great ideas turned into live tools for your team and the whole community. For this coming club season, local mixed teams Classy and American Barbecue are going all-in to manage their rosters, schedule practices, and all sorts of other cool things made available by DiscSpace. By this time next year, CSL and every one of our fabulous hat leagues and tournaments will be on DiscSpace.

If you'd like any assistance to set up a team page on DiscSpace, or to learn how to use the different tools, write to dmo (at) discspace (dot) com.

Team Requirements / More Information

Dear Team Captains,

Your initial bid, deposit, and final team fee are most important (as listed above under "Registration Instructions"), and once all that is out of the way, you'll have a few more things to do. Here are the detailed team requirements that you must fulfill to ensure a fun experience for your team, and smooth operations for everyone who runs CSL.

  • Captains Meeting (15 min. before first game) - At least one team representative must attend the captains' meeting taking place 15 min. before your first game at Gilman. If your game starts at 7:00 PM, then the meeting time is 6:45 PM. If your game starts at 9:00 PM, then your meeting time is 8:45 PM.
  • Bay Area Disc Association waivers - Collect a Bay Area Disc waiver from each team member and submit the full set for your team at the first game. Players who have played in our hat leagues, and who verify that they already have a waiver on file do not have to submit another waiver. All new players who have never played a Bay Area Disc event must sign and submit a waiver. NOTE: CSL is not a UPA-sanctioned event, so USAU memberships and liability waivers do not fulfill this requirement. Bay Area Disc waivers are totally separate, and everybody must sign and submit one before setting foot on the field. No exceptions.
  • Attendance - Field a team each week and show up on time to set up cones. All players must have matching team jerseys or bring a WHITE and a BLACK shirt.
  • Field Care - Leave fields clean and undamaged. Bay Area Disc is in good standing with the field management at Gilman, and we'd like to keep it that way. NOTE: Other organizations who have broken the rules at Gilman haven't been so lucky, and have been forced to give up their permits.
  • Rebate - If your team meets all the requirements listed above, you can earn up to 100% of your $100 deposit at the end of the season. Refunds will be processed by PayPal only.

League Credits

Club Summer League is a dream come true for everyone who runs it and plays in it, but to be quite honest, it would not happen if not for our fantastic club team captains who work hard to make the Bay Area one of the most competitive, if not THE most competitive section in the country. Additionally, CSL depends on a few key volunteers as follows:

  • League Director - Adam Farren
  • Communication/Marketing/Partytime Coordinator - Rachel Holz
  • Waivers & Score Reporting/Spirit Reporting - Johann Lau
  • Behind The Scenes - Jason Seidler
